Wednesday, March 17th, 2010
For anyone that is self employed – as of January 31, 2010 – you are entitled to register for employee insurance special benefits through Service Canada. You can register either online or at a Service Canada Center near you. The deadline to register in order to have coverage beginning January 1, 2011 is April 1, 2010. If you do not register before April 1, 2010 you will not qualify for coverage for another twelve months. Under this plan, the four types of benefits coverage you will have are: maternity, parental, sickness, and compassionate care. If any of these four apply to you, or you are interested in learning more, you should contact Service Canada before April 1, 2010!

The more you give the more you receive…
Monday, March 15th, 2010
Do you believe in concepts like karma, the law of cause and effect, or the more you give the more you receive? At BOSS we absolutely do and we believe that these laws, if adopted, can create significant opportunities for greater results and growth for any business.
To demonstrate this most effectively lets look at the power of sending another business a referral and what this can do for your own business. We all know the benefits of receiving a referral, but what are the benefits to the person sending a referral?
If I am a smart business owner, when I receive a referral from somebody I immediately feel two things: (1) I am excited at the prospect of new business and (2) I am thankful to whoever has just referred the potential client to me. I am also immediately thinking about the person who has sent the referral to me, about their business, and how I can repay them for the effort they made on my behalf. That person’s company is now top of mind for me and, if I am smart, I will be making every effort to repay them. (more…)

Abundance vs. Scarcity
Thursday, March 11th, 2010
Why is it that you can have two different businesses in the same industry, in the same market, providing the same service, to the same consumer, and one business is achieving great success whereas the other is barely getting by? Is it because one business has a more effective marketing strategy, or more efficient processes, or better customer service, or a quicker response time, or maybe it is a combination of all of these things? All are valid reasons and are definitely factors influencing why one business is being more successful than the other. But is there something else at work here? Is there something even simpler at play that causes the differences in the businesses above? At BOSS we believe that there absolutely is and it lies in the mindset of the business owner. (more…)

Lessons from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics
Monday, March 8th, 2010
First of all let me say that this is a great time
to be a Canadian! It was fantastic to watch our athletes perform so well on the world stage and it was also very uplifting to see so many Canadians support our athletes and show their pride in being Canadian.
But are there any lessons that we could learn from the Olympics that could apply to us in business? Well from our perspective there are many. Here are a few that we complied while watching our Olympians perform on the world stage.
Creative vs. Competitive
The Olympics, just like any other athletic activity, is by its very nature a “competition”. Similarly, in many instances life may also seem like a “competition”. In the Olympics, just like in our economy, the result will be a few “winners” and many “losers”. This is simply how competition works. There is nothing wrong with this but rather is simply the nature of competitive games. Some people say that silver medal is the first loser. But this can be a cynical way of looking at competition. There is nothing wrong with competition – far from it – it will bring out the best in athletes and people. However we must realize the limitations that can arise form thinking in the competitive plane and this is especially true in business.
In business, what we must realize is that there are two planes to operate from: the Competitive Plane and the Creative Plane. (more…)
